Nicky’s Notes

A woman with long brown hair and a black top smiles at the camera, sitting indoors with a brick wall and some greenery in the background.

Made famous by The Bonefish Grill in Florida in their Bang Bang Shrimp recipe, this is a sauce makes anything bite-size and crispy taste AMAZING!

I love how something as simple as Bang Bang Sauce can completely transform a meal. The combination of creamy mayo, sweet chilli sauce, sriracha and a little honey gives you that lovely sweet-spicy balance that works especially well with anything crispy – my favourite is crispy prawns.

The heat can vary quite a bit between brands of sriracha and sweet chilli sauce, so have a quick taste before adding any extra chilli. It’s much easier to add more heat than take it away! I also like to make the sauce a little ahead of serving, so those flavours have time to mingle.

The base of the sauce is mayonnaise. We’re using about 120ml (1/2 a cup) – this will serve 6 people.
Then we’re basically flavouring the mayonnaise with the addition of 2 tbsp of sweet chilli sauce (use your favourite brand), 1 tbsp of sriracha (you can use hot sauce – such as Franks or Tabasco if you prefer) and 1 tsp of honey, for a slight touch of sweetness.

Mix it all together, then serve.

Nicky, your Bang Bang Sauce is certainly good on a burger but it is amazing on fries! I like to cut a potato into wedges lengthwise, drizzle a little olive oil on the wedges, and shake on various spices, whatever you like, such as Montreal Steak Seasoning, paprika, garlic powder, etc. Then toss them in the air fryer for 15 to 20 minutes at 400, depending on how done you like them. I grilled a burger for lunch and used your sauce on that but still had plenty left. I thought, I wonder how it is on fries? OMG it was so good! A nice little kick from the sriracha sauce, just enough to get my nose to run a bit. Fantastic!
