We’ve reached our 1st birthday!
I can’t believe it’s been a year since I started this little blog that had no more than a handful of views each day (mostly me, my husband and my mum) for the first couple of months. It’s grown into something I love, and I even left my job so I could spend more time on it.
Since that time, you guys have all start visiting me and my viewing figures have shot up to almost a thousand views a day. It’s all because of you! Thank you for coming to check out my blog, and for continuing to come back. I would not be able to do this without you, and I’m doing a job that I absolutely love for the first time in my life (apart from being a mum of course) .
Whilst I adore creating new recipes, taking photos of my food (under the training of Chris – who still takes around a third of my pictures), it hasn’t all been plain sailing, and I thought it a good time to share some of my recipe fails.
It happens to us all, and sometimes you’ve just go to throw it in the bin and grab a takeaway.
I’m going to kick off with the ‘Sunset Cheesecake’.
Sounds dark, moody and alluring doesn’t it? Hmmm it’s a shame that I put too much butter in the oreo base (eugh greasy!), made the orange mousse layer taste like a kids artificial orange drink, got lovely mould-looking greasy spots in the jelly (again, blaming it on the butter – as well as putting the jelly in too warm), and finally, the whole thing stuck when I tried to lift it off the tray. Resulting in a techntonic-plate movement kind of effect – hence the bumpy, uneven look to the whole thing. Yes, I think I failed on every single element here. It went straight in the bin.
Next is my Thai peanut one-pot. ‘Looks ok’ I hear you say? Tasted like peanut flavoured glue.
My attempt at a refined look. I even used my fancy rectangular plates. Shame it looks totally naff!!
I’m still not 100% happy with the picture of the one I did post, but even though it was delicious, my family were sick of pork belly 5 days in a row.
I actually posted this caramel Nutella bread pudding here hidden among a couple of more attractive photos (when it was covered in ice cream and caramel sauce!!). Looks awful, but tasted really good.
Hope you enjoyed them! What were your best (worst?) recipe fails of 2014?
